Our History
Carl Dionisio owner and founder of "Mad Bee Adventures" / "No Roof, No Rush" is an award winning photographer and holds three bungy jumping world records. Carl retired from Bungy after 28 years as the world's first and only Ocean Touch Bungy Jump Master. As a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Carl rebuilt a Series III Land Rover and, in 1997, drove her east from London to Sharm el Sheikh and then west back to Lisbon. Carl has now embraced the "jeeptour" world on the island of Madeira. Mad Bee offers private but affordable duo tours with no clocks or timed stops. Every tour is environmentally sustainable, bespoke and exclusive.
Our Story
At the moment Mad Bee possesses one ex-army Series III classic Land Rover and when possible will acquire just one more identical landy. We intend to remain minimalist which by definition keeps us fiscally sustainable and environmentally responsible. By maintaining a owner/driver model we eliminate overheads and staff costs which means we can pass these savings directly to you while providing you with personal attention. These ingredients mean we remain passionate about our tours on this island of flowers.
Just a cute note. Bee in Portuguese is Abelha. Abelha rhymes with Madeira. The locals call a taxi 'Abelinha' (small bee) because they are yellow. Carl was stung by a bumble bee, known as the 'Madeira' Bee and that is what sparked the idea for the name; 'Mad Bee Adventures.'
Our Private, Classic Land Rover Tours
Discover the absolute best of Madeira with our handpicked itineraries. Designed for couples or pairs of travelers, our private duo tours offer an intimate and unforgettable journey through stunning landscapes. Mad Bee chooses to buzz mostly on the western end of the island. If you choose we will zoom along the western north coast stopping at sites like St Vincent, Veio da Noiva, Seixal Beach, the Volcanic Rock Pools of Porto Moniz, and Fanal Forest before heading back south to the picturistic fishing village of Paul do Mar. Alternatively you may choose to avoid the crowds and remain on the southern west coast exploring views accessible only via 4x4 tracks. The latter tour is far more relaxed and you may choose to bring along a picnic to fully merge with the landscape.
